“The meaning of life is not to be discovered only after death in some hidden, mysterious realm; on the contrary, it can be found by eating the succulent fruit of the Tree of Life and by living in the here and now as fully and creatively as we can.” – Paul Kurtz
🌿
The Tree of Life depicted here, in threes on three, represent personal development, uniqueness and individual beauty, among many other things. This commission is a cup, bowl and plate that await the abundance and fruit of one’s labors. At times these vessels will contain more or less to nothing, but always present is hope and the dreams from which that hope springs.
Created for a dear Irish friend who is on an incredible life-changing journey that’s landed that friend in new places, among new people, daring to live differently. I considered the different ways the ToL can be depicted and again chose asymmetry. If every tree were to grow in the same uniform shape, as seen in the Celtic versions, most trees wouldn’t survive. Trees must be adaptable in order to survive and thrive. We, as humans, won’t thrive if we’re too rigid in our expectations of life. Adaptability is the key.
