Nichole holds a Bachelors degree in Ceramics from Keene State College which she graduated from in 1999. There she studied under Alfred University Master’s Program graduate Samuel Azzaro, the author of a book titled Ash Glazes, who retired from teaching in 2008 (Keene State College News and The Sentinel Source). Nichole’s advisor Henry Freedman also retired the same year.
After graduating, Nichole lived and worked for five years in Japan studying Japanese aesthetics, Tea Ceremony, and ceramic art history with Sainen Tokii in Kishiwada City in Osaka Prefecture. She returned to the United States in 2004 and through continuing education at Keene State College she did a semester on Japanese-style diningware sets and another developing porcelain glazes. Nichole worked briefly for art tile company Trikeenan Tileworks as their sample department manager creating the showroom boards and elements from tile making appear in her sculptures.
In early 2015, Nichole relocated to Madrid Spain to devote herself to ceramic art. All of her work is made and decorated by hand. Nichole was working out of the Escuela de Ceramica de la Moncloa and teaching workshops and private lessons on wheel-thrown pottery and their decorative techniques at Dosdeazucar antes La Galeria Factoria, formerly known as La Galeria Factoria. Now she teaches occasionally teaches handbulding and wheel-thrown pottery classes in her studio in La Tabacalera. Nichole has exhibited four times since she’s begun working in her studios in September of 2015 (list of exhibitions below). Unfortunately the pandemic of the novel coranavirus made working in the centro social and exhibiting work impossible with all the restrictions, lockdowns and closures. But 2021 is a new year and she is working in her studio and looking forward to a productive year.
In regards to other artistic mediums, In 2014, Nichole published a book of poetry titled A Remedy For Love containing poems, prose and photographs. Three years earlier she had begun writing poems and prose which marked the return of her desire for creative expression and to create art. Nichole continues to write poetry and collaborates with poets in Madrid today. Nichole is currently working on a second book of poems.
Also in 2014, Nichole picked up a camera and began taking photographs. She sold several photos to the regional magazine Here in Hanover and has worked with independent musicians. Nichole continues to do artistic, promotional and event photography. You may see many examples of her work for Living Room Concerts, a Meetup group she founded, organises private concert and social events for, and the promotional marketing. Nichole has also been a production assistant and consultant for Silberfarb Films in Vermont. In addition to taking photos she has been on the other end of the camera modelling for several photographers over the past few years, notably for Cockpit USA for their line CPT, for portrait photographer Jack Rowell of Vermont, artist David Trullo and Tilly May of Madrid, Spain.
